About Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin was born in Croydon in 1963 and grew up in Margate. She studied at the Royal College of Art in London and became one of the central figures of the Young British Artists alongside Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and others. Her work draws on autobiography, sexuality, loss and vulnerability, and she works across drawing, painting, sculpture, film, photography, neon and installation.

Emin came to international attention with Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963–1995, the appliquéd tent exhibited at the Royal Academy's Sensation show in 1997, and again with My Bed, shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1999 and later acquired by the Tate. Her handwritten neon text works have become some of the most recognisable contemporary artworks in the world.

She was elected a Royal Academician in 2007, appointed CBE in 2013 and made a Dame in 2024. Her work is held in the Tate, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and public collections worldwide.

Tracey Emin works appear at The Studio Gallery from time to time. Contact us to ask about current availability or to register your interest at our gallery in Henley-on-Thames.
